Watch the State of the Union (SOTU) Address tonight, Obama's chance for a national pep talk, and react to the President's words here at CitizenU.  Is tonight's speech a turn on or a turn off?  Is Obama energizing his reelection bid tonight or does he have a lot of work yet to do?

His speech probably lasts 23 minutes without applause. But we're probably in for 65 minutes of a good show from this point! Thanks for joining us, Sam. Enjoy the theater!

For the record, his speech as 64 minutes. Not a bad prediction, thank you.

Solid red spotted tie . . . let's hope the President can connect the dots. Touching as Obama hugs Rep. Giffords.

Bad make up tonight. Hopefully Obama's speech will make up for that.

Mr. Conneen, you were right, this is just like the red carpet and the music awards. Everyone wants to shake his hand. It took him forever to get to center stage. Now 10 min of clapping from everyone.

My brother was in the Marines. When I talked to him about our troops leaving Iraq, he said that he knows troops will still be deployed there. What is that about?

That's what we thought was going to happen a year ago, but our State Department couldn't work out a deal with Iraq for our troops to avoid Iraq judicial punishments if our troops stayed. Combat troops are now out of Iraq. Obama did keep that promise.

But Republicans contend that removing our combat troops from Iraq will mean that Iran --their neighbor--will get stronger.

Nice rhetoric:
"fellow Americans" "this generation of heroes" "courage, hope and selflessness"

...and he starts off bragging about withdrawing troops from Iraq

completely starting to campaign:

"a future where we control our own energy"
"we can restore an economy where everybody gets a fair share"
"american values"

Obama is campaigning "change" again. He wants to give businesses a tax break that do not outsource jobs and "keep them at home", and give tax cuts to companies who hire in the United States. He is calling Congress to make tax reforms.

So I'm a little late to the show (because of freshman parent night), but I would agree with a previous poster: Obama is definitely looking to get some college students votes. No doubt about that. Also, seeing as I'm hoping to work in alternative energy, I quite enjoyed the focus he put on it. Good for him. I'm expecting some big time gas price drops in the coming months because of the election :)

Looks like the speech just ended. I only caught the end of it. I will give him credit for Iraq. He did keep that promise. But as for alternative energy, from what I've seen in the comments, don't get too excited. Technology for such things is growing. But just 3D printing and television, it may take time to catch up with the market. The way I see it, alternative energy, in the extensive way many people want to see it, will be emerging in the next generation as fast as hybrid cars are in ours.
